Yes, you need to know the weight of your goods. In most cases you can estimate your weight on the bill of lading. But be aware that the carrier can and will adjust the weight which will determine your final cost. The final weight is known as the “chargeable weight”. For air freight transportation, the chargeable weight may be the dimensional weight if it is greater than the gross weight of the shipment. If you have underestimated the weight, and the shipment reaches a central terminal, a dock master will judge the goods and perhaps reweigh them. If reweighed, you will be billed for the new actual weight. Each mode of transportation has its own set of rules.

We can certainly have the cargo picked up at the shipper’s convenience. However, topographical conditions and area access will play a role in such decisions.

The documents that you need vary from country to country. However, listed below are the basic documents that you will need:

  •   Certificate of origin
  •   Ocean bill of lading or Air Waybill
  •   Phytosanitary certificate
  •   Packing list
  •   Hazardous cargo/ Dangerous cargo certificate
  •   20Ft Standard: 19’3 L x 7’7 W x 7’8 H Opening: 7’6 W x 7’5 H
  •   40Ft Standard: 39’4 L x 7’7 W x 7’8 H Opening: 7’6 W x 7’5 H

The weight of the container and the weighing measurements vary from nation to nation. The standard measurements are

  •   A 20 Ft standard container should not exceed more than 40,000 lbs
  •   A 40 Ft standard container should not exceed more than 45,000 lbs
